Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few days, you’ll know that on Saturday night Beyonce dropped her long-anticipated album, Lemonade, during an hour-long HBO music video special. Predictably, the internet exploded, and not just thanks to the beauty and splendour of the new album. It turns out that much of the new album tackles Jay-Z’s supposed cheating on Queen B with a mystery woman.
The spoken word opening to the song Apathy tackles the subject head-on:
“So what are you gonna say at my funeral now that you’ve killed me? Here lies the body of the love of my life whose heart I broke without a gun to my head. Here lies the mother of my children both living and dead. Rest in peace my true love, who I took for granted. Most bomb pussy, who because of me sleep evaded. Her shroud is loneliness, her god was listening. Her heaven will be a love without betrayal. Ashes to ashes, dust to side chicks.”
On the track Sorry, Bey sings: “He better call Becky with the good hair.” As the music video shows her jumping off a building, the lyrics fit the sombre mood: “Looking at my watch, he shoulda been home. Today I regret the night I put that ring on. He always got them f*king excuses.”
So who is Becky with the good hair? Well, it turns out that this mystery woman has all but outed herself on Instagram, and Beyonce’s fans are more than a little bit pissed.
