When it comes to Hollywood, the lack of diversity in TV and film leads is a constant point of discussion. Admittedly the number of gay and transgender characters on TV has increased but there is still an overall absence of LGBT characters from prominent movie roles.
This week BuzzFeed decided to take matters into their own hands and recreate some of the most iconic movie posters with LGBT people and the result was awesome.
Nicola and Kennen re-created one of the Superman Returns posters
Afterwards, BuzzFeed spoke to the people who featured in the posters to get their thoughts on the whole experience and what it meant to them.
Kennen: “Movies with gay characters are always the sassy gay friend, sexually aggressive bisexuals and lesbians, or one partner dies tragically. There was never a Superman who was an amazing hero that just happens to be gay.”
Nicola: “If you look at arguably the biggest movie about a gay couple, Brokeback Mountain, in the poster, they’re not even in the same shot, let alone showing affection.”
