One of the problems associated with illegal drugs is that we don’t know what they’re comprised of. If they were to become legal, the substances going into them could be regulated.
Whether drugs are made legal or not, I don’t think people will stop taking them anytime soon, even with the prevalence of medical emergencies and death due to overdose. For that reason, researchers have taken on the task of closely monitoring the effects drugs have on the body.
A study was recently undertaken by researchers from Imperial College London and the Beckley Foundation. It consisted of 20 healthy participants who were given LSD while the researchers used various techniques such as MRI and magnetoencephalography (MEG). These techniques allowed the researchers to study the entire brain by monitoring the blood flow and electrical activity.
