If you’ve ever bought a secondhand book in a charity shop, you’ll know the odd sensation of opening the cover and finding a birthday message or love note on the inside cover. We’ll never know who the book was originally intended for, and yet we keep their personal messages on our bookshelves and by our beds.
Reddit user Muctor recently felt this odd mixture of familiarity and unfamiliarity recently after purchasing a rare vinyl online. His purchase of the album Superunknown by alternative grunge band Soundgarden came packaged with something unexpectedly personal for such an impersonal purchase.
The note, which you can read on the next page, was from a mother who was selling her dead son’s record collection off in order to pay for her grandson’s college tuition. Mark, the mother’s son, had an epic collection of 2000 CDs and over 600 vinyl LPs before he sadly passed away in 2002.
