Eminem has been through a lot throughout the years, from drug problems, a relationship breakdown with his ex-wife, and being sued by his own mother for $10 million. Despite his tumultuous life story being out there for pretty much everyone to see, one thing that he never really opens up about is his mental health.
So when he rapped about having a certain serious mental health condition on his massive track Monster featuring Rihanna, many were sure he was simply using a bit of artistic license. In the song, Eminem raps about having obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD): “Cause the very thing that I love’s killing me / And I can’t conquer it / My OCD is conking me in the head, keep knocking.”
In order to clear up the question mark over whether he really does suffer from the condition, which affects around 1 per cent of the US population, Eminem has spoken out about his lyrics online. Handily, RapGenius.com has a feature which allows the original artists to annotate their own lyrics, which Slim has used to clear a few things up.
