Jake Booth is a 35-year-old army veteran who recently woke up from a 42 day coma. His first words after waking were so legendary – and completely relatable – that they’ve been making headlines around the world.
After a bout of bronchitis turned into chronic pneumonia, Jake was placed into a medically induced coma after he became unable to process oxygen with his own lungs. It’s thought the illness deteriorated after Jake quit his course of antibiotics a few days too early.
While hospitalised for treatment, Jake suffered a heart attack and was placed into a coma. His family spent the next 48 days wondering if he would ever wake up, and if he did, how damaged his brain might be from being starved of oxygen.
When he finally woke up, he miraculously knew who he was, understood where he was and even recognised his six-year-old daughter and one-year-old son. He struggled to speak, but eventually spoke the fateful words known to college undergrads and fast food lovers the world over.
