It’s no secret that North Korea are generous with their harsh forms of punishment should someone do something that Kim Jong Un does not approve of. The BBC are no exception. The broadcasting corporation visited North Korea earlier this week in order to cover the first Workers’ Party Congress in 36 years. During the congress, Kim outlined his plans to strengthen the country’s nuclear capabilities. The event was also an opportunity for the world’s media to see the isolated nation. A number of western media outlets were granted visas in order to attended the event alongside the BBC, such as CNN and Sky News.
