Before Amy Winehouse’s debut album Frank was released to the world, the late superstar was a relatively unknown jazz singer from North London. It was during this period of her life that fine art and fashion photographer Charles Moriarty took a series of portraits of the singer, one of which was destined to feature on Frank’s cover.
Until now, the photos taken during these shoots have never seen the light of day, and have remained in Moriaty’s personal care. But after speaking with Amy documentary maker Asif Kapadia, Moriarty realised that the photos deserved to be shared with the rest of the world.
So he did what any modern artist would do, and launched a Kickstarter campaign with the aim of publishing a book of around 50 photographs of the late star. The campaign has since exceeded its aim and raised over £300,000 for the project.
