Many people Tupac Shakur is considered the greatest rapper who’s ever lived and for good reason. His community-minded lyrics shed light on a dark world of corruption and poverty, making art from topics and situations most people would prefer to ignore.
An unearthed 1992 MTV interview reveals exactly how deeply the rapper cared about the issues our wealth-obsessed society faced. The interview is eerily relevant today, with mentions of Trump and America’s wealthiest people.
During the interview, Tupac describes a wealth-obsessed society that is just as relevant today as it was then: “We’re taught this from school. Everywhere. Big business. You want to be successful? You want to be like Trump? Gimme, gimme, gimme. Push, push, push. It’s too much money here. I mean, nobody, should be hitting the lotto for $36 million and we’ve got people starving in the streets.” He goes on to outline his vision for a fairer society, where the rich would give much more to the poor than they currently do.
