Speaking as someone who doesn’t believe in ghosts, the afterlife or reincarnation, spooky stories are generally just that: stories. Despite my long-held scepticism for all things supernatural, even I have to admit that the following stories defy explanation, and are downright creepy. From aliens to twin psychosis, these terrifying tales have it all.
1. The Dyatlov Pass Incident
On February 2, 1959, nine experienced hikers in Russia were found brutally murdered in the snow. Two bodies were found wearing their underwear. Bear in mind, the temperatures were somewhere between -13 and -22° F. The rest of the bodies had strange injuries, including fractured skulls and a broken chest so severe it could only have taken place in a car wreck or by falling from a high distance. One of the hikers had her eyes, tongue, bottom lip, and parts of her skull missing.Their clothes also contained high amounts of radiation.
2. The Kelly–Hopkinsville Encounter
On August 21, 1995, five adults and seven children visited a Kentucky police station claiming they had been attacked by small, alien-like creatures in their farmhouse. The adults claimed they had been fighting the creatures “for nearly four hours”. The police could find nothing but bullet holes and glass on the grass from the family’s guns.
3. Ursula and Sabina Eriksson
Swedish twins Ursula and Sabina Eriksson became famous after they apparently had an episode of folie à deux, or “twin psychosis”. The pair were boarding a coach for London at Liverpool when their odd behaviour caused the driver not to allow them back on the coach. The two then began to run across the busy M6 motorway. Ursula managed to dodge traffic, but Sabina was struck by a car.
After police arrived, the women escaped and ran onto the motorway again. They were again struck by oncoming vehicles, and Sabina suffered a serious head injury that left her unconscious for several minutes. When she regained consciousness, she refused medical aid and attacked a police officer. After being taken into a nearby police station and released again, Sabina stabbed a man to death. She was eventually charged with manslaughter and sentenced to five years in prison.
