The hip hop world is still in mourning the death of Afeni Shakur, who died this week aged 69. Widely heralded for the work she did after taking over her late son’s estate back in 1996, Afeni Shakur was a political activist turned music business mogul.
Tributes to Afeni Shakur have been pouring in from across the hip hop community, and the latest high profile one comes from The Game. The infamous rapper wrote a tribute song, “honoring not only mines & the late 2pac’s mother, but all the mothers across the world…”
Speaking about the track, The Game gave a stirring tribute to the late philanthropist: “This song is dedicated to Lynette Marie Baker – Mama, I love you,” The Game says. “Everything we been through we went through together. Me, you and my lil’ sisters. Take this time out to thank all the mothers in the world just for staying strong. And I wanna say R.I.P., Afeni. I know you happy you with ‘Pac now. I know he aight. He got his Mama.”
