Conor McGregor is knocking on the door of true greatness inside the cage, and evidently he’s been doing the same on the outside too. The UFC featherweight champ recently penned a poignant tribute to the late Joao Carvalho, following his tragic death at the weekend.

The Portuguese MMA fighter fell ill 20 minutes after a welterweight bout with McGregor’s teammate, Charlie Ward, ironically nicknamed, ‘The Hospital,’ on Saturday.

The fighter was attended to by on-site medical staff, following a technical knockout. However, despite undergoing emergency brain surgery, he did not survive and succumbed to his extensive injuries on Monday evening.

Shortly after the news of Carvalho’s death emerged, numerous tributes began to flood the internet. The tributes including a host of MMA personalities, fighters and coaches – like John Kavanagh, who trains both Ward and McGregor.
